  • Between Nothingness and Inifinity, I Began to Weep…Between Nothingness and Inifinity, I Began to Weep is a multimedia performance by filmmaker Maxime Jean-Baptiste, made in partnership with artist Sandra Muteteri Heremans, actor Rose Martine, and choir conductor Sophye Soliveau. The piece centers on Jean-Baptiste’s cousin Lucas, who was brutally murdered ten years ago at the age of 18, while at a birthday party in Cayenne, French Guiana. The performance begins with readings in the dark. A blend of artful video images, footage of a memorial procession and interviews then create a picture of the murdered young man. We hear from his close relations, and particulary his best friend Yannick. The film footage comes from Jean-Baptiste’s latest film project in progress and is combined with text, music, song, dance and light art. As well as reflecting on Jean-Baptiste’s cousin, the murder and the emotions surrounding the tragedy, the performance also considers the role of the filmmaker and his purpose in making this film.
