Because of the language Madame used in her act, Wayland insisted that no one under the age of 18 be allowed to attend his shows.

He and Madame replaced Paul Lynde in the center square on Hollywood Squares.

Other characters he performed include Crazy Mary, Jiffy and Baby Smedley (named after his grandfather).
