Cliff Thorburn was born on January 16, 1948 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada as Clifford Thorburn.
Winner of the 1980 World Snooker Championship
He was awarded the C.M. (Member of the Order of Canada) on December 19, 1983 for his services to snooker.
In 2010 returned to the UK to compete on the Snooker Legends Tour. He faced Alex Higgins, 吉米·怀特 and John Parrott.
In 2001 was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
Achieved the highest break of 147 twice in his career.
One of only 3 players from outside the United Kingdom to win the world title in the modern era along with 肯·达赫迪 and 尼尔·罗伯逊.
Was a runner-up in the world championship in 1977, and was soon considered a contender for tournaments.
