Andrea Martin is of Armenian descent - her grandfather's last name was Papazian when he immigrated in the early 1900s from Ottoman Turkey. When he settled his family in Maine, he changed the last name from Papazian to Martin. Andrea's other grandparents were also ethnic Armenian immigrants.

For her second Tony Award, the Broadway revival of "Pippin", she played the role originated by Irene "Granny Clampett" Ryan, who was also nominated for a Tony Award for that role but did not win.
She was awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto, Ontario in 2018.
